Impact of Convergence Mechanism on Delay of Edge Node in Optical Burst Switched Networks
|
Abstract:
Optical burst switching(OBS) is a promising paradigm for the next-generation Internet infrastructure. This paper presents a delay analysis model for OBS edge node, in which the total delay can be sorted into assembly delay, burst queuing delay and offset delay. By analyzing the convergence mechanism it is indicated that the delay performance is mainly impacted by the assembly delay. The assembly delay under three different assembly algorithms are theoretical ly analyzed and its correctness is validated by simulation. The impact of traffic self-similarity on the delay is also ana- lyzed. Both theoretical and simulation result show that the delay in edge node is mostly decided by assemble delay and is relevant to the assembly algorithm, the parameters of algorithm and traffic self-similarity.
