EFFECT OF AUSTENITIC DENDRITES ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF DUCTILE IRON

Impact toughness of ductile nodular cast iron loaded perpendicular to the austenitic dendrites is found to be 43% higher than that parallel to ones.Yet tensile strength and elongation of the former are 23% and 30% lower than the later respectively.It is belived that the dendritic segregation may cause such differences.
