PAECILOMYCES SINENSIS SP.NOV.AND ITS CONNECTION WITH CORDYCEPS SINENSIS
|
Abstract:
The cultural technique, morphological characteristics and taxonomical position of Paecilomyces sinensis sp.nov.,which may be the asexual stage of Cor- dyceps sinensis(Berk.)Sacc.,is reported in this paper. The larvae bearing Cordyceps sinen- sis, being collectel freshly from Kangding County,Sichuan Province,China,in June 1980, were isolated and cultured on several media in the laboratory. The morphological characte- ristics of Paecilomyces sinensis sp.nov.are quite similar to the conidial stage of Cordyceps militaris except distinctions in shape and size of conidia as well as size of phialides.Besides these, the hosts and habitats of these two species are also different,so we consider Paecilo- myces sinensis as a new species.Paecilomyces sinensis may occur both on the larvae merely bearing synnemata or on the larvae bearing stromata with perithecia. The characteristics of the two cultures are exactly alike. Chinese and Latin diagnoses are given for the new species. The type specimen HMAS (43720)is deposited in the Institute of Microbiology,Academia Sinica,Beijing,China.
