YEASTS OF BOHAI SEAWATER

Abstract:
Two hundred and twenty-eight yeast strains were isolated from seawater collected from 31 stations in Bohai, and were identified by conventional methods. The strains belonged to 40 species of 8 genera, i.e. Rhodotorula (5 species), Cryptococcus (8), Debaryomyces (2), Pichia (8), Candida (13), Aureobasidium (1), Torulasppora (1), and Saccharomyces (2), 13 of the 40 species, i.e. Cryptococcus ater, Cr. magnus, Debaryomyces polymorphus, Saccharomyces kluyveri, Pichia burtonii, P. carsonii, P. etchellsii, P. guilliermondii, P. heimii, P. ohmeri, P. philogaea, P. scolyti and Torulaspora delbrueckii are new records in China. Except P. etchellsii and P. ohmeri, the 11 of them are newly reported species in seawater.
