NOTES ON NOMENCLATURE OF SOME CORDYCEPS(CLA VICIPITACEAE)

Two form names in Cordyceps, viz. C. militaris f. albina and C. ophioglossoides i. alba, are validated. When first proposed, neither was indicated as a new taxon but referred to previous publications where no appropriate form names and Latin diagnoses were published. A new name, C. shimizui, is proposed for C. chichibuensis Kobayasi & Shimizu (1983), a later homonym of C. chichibu-ensis Kobayasi & Shimizu (1980). Cordyceps shanxiensis, listed as an invalid name in the Index of Fungi, is confirmed as a validly published name because holotype and paratype were clearly indicated in the Chinese text of the protologue. The no-menclatural status of C. purpureostromata f. recurvata, invalidly published as no type was designated, is considered. A clue as to the original material may be obtained from the photograph published as part of the protologue. Attention is drawn to incorrect author citations for names of Cordyces and orthography of some epithets is also discussed.
