FORMATION OF OOSPORES OF PHYTOPHTHORA INFESTANS IN NATURAL POTATO FIELD IN YUNNAN PROVINCE OF CHINA

Abstract:
Oospores of the late blight pathogen Phytophthora infestans and typical morphological characteristics of sexual organs that the amphigynous antheridium adheres tenaciously to the oogonium were observed in potato leaf tissue sampled from natural potato field in Yunnan province. The location, number, color and size of oospores were described. The significance of sexual recombination was briefly discussed. It is firstly reported that sexual reproduction of Phytophthora infestans occurred in natural potato field in China.
