ULTRASTRUCTURE OF HAUSTORIAL MOTHER CELL OF WHEAT STRIPE RUST
|
Abstract:
Ultrastructure of haustorial mother cell of wheat stripe rust was studied with electron microscopy. It was observed that haustorial mother cells could be formed between intercellular hyphal cells while most of them usually located on the tip of intercellular hyphae. There were Several haustorial mother cells formed on the same intercellular hyphal cell, and multinuclear condition in haustorial mother cell was very common, Six layers in haustorial mother cell wall and four in haustorial mother cell septum were recognized. Cytochemical staining revealed that the protrusion of haustorial mother cell septum contained polysaccharide. Forthermore, the appearance and disappearance of the protrusion were found to be related to the development of haustorium. The results here showed that some of ultrastructural characteristics of the haustorial mother cell of wheat stripe rust was evidently different from those of other rusts.
