IDENTIFICATION AND PREVALENCE OF ENTOMOPHTHORA BRAHMINA IN KUNMING DISTRICT
|
Abstract:
An epidemic discase of beetle Heplophylla brevicollia (Fair.)] infected by an entomogenous fungus was obscrved in Hot Spring region, Anning county, Kunming district, Yunnan in 1978. The pathogen was identified as Entomophthora brahmina Bose et Mehta. The morphology of the fungus has been carefully studied. It was estimated that each beetle Heplophylla brevicollia (Fair.)] can produce about 76,800 resting spores. The fungus causes that an enzootic disease in a small area. It is inferred that the rainy season begins earlier, an enzootic infection of lower frequency in a small area develops towards an epidemic infection in a large area.
