THE HPLC ANALYSIS OF THE LICHEN SUBSTANCES IN FIVE SPECIES OF XANTHORIA (ASCOMYCOTA)
|
Abstract:
The HPLC analysis of the lichen substances from the five species of Xanthoria were performed in the present paper. They are Xanthoria alfredi, X. elegans, X. fallax, X. mandschurica and X. sorediata The results showed that the five species of Xanthoria examined can be divided into groups E and F according to the ratio quotient of parietin in species to that of fallacinal + teloschistin in species. The quotient of that in group E is >14, while in group F is <1.20. So, X. elegans and X. sorediata belong to group E, and the lobes of them usually narrower and lacking rhizines; and X. alfredi and X. fallax to group F, and the lobes usually larger in width and bearing rhizines. However, by way of exception, some specimens of X. mandschurica belong to group E, and others to group F. The phenomenon is discussed by the authors in the present article.
