APPLICATION OF OXYGEN VECTORS TO PHAFFIA RHODOZYMA CULTIVATION FOR ASTAXANTHIN PRODUCTION

Astaxanthin accumulation by Phaffia rhodozyma is strongly dependent on the dissolved oxygen concentration. Two-phase fermentation system with the addition of oxygen vector was applied to enhance oxygen transfer. The addition of oxygen carrier, soybean oil, obviously improved the astaxanthin yield, whereas high concentration of carrier showed somewhat inhibition to the yeast growth and astaxanthin formation.
