THE SCREENING OF ALTERNARIA ALTERNATA AND ALTERNARIA SOLANI FOR ALTERNARIOL AND ALTERNARIOL MELTHYL ETHER-TOXIGENICITY STRAINS
|
Abstract:
Ninety-six Alternaria strains isolated from deseased rinds of wheat, potato, tomato and eggplant were screened for toxigenicity with alternariol (AOH) and alternariol melthyl ether ( AME) by the growth inhibition of Bacillum mycoides. Fourty - eight strains have toxic effects to B. mycoides (account for 50% ). Eighteen strains with highly to moderately toxic effects have been analysed by high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC), among which thirteen strains produce AOH and AME (account for 72.2%). Results show that the number of toxic strains of A. alternata is lower than that of A. solani. However, the toxin production of A. alternata is much higher than that of A. solani. The highest content of AOH and AME is 280 and 5140 mg/kg produced by A. alternata strain XA-8 and 95.9 and 94.3 mg/kg by A. solani strain SA-10.
