FURTHER STUDIES ON THE INVASION OF HAUSTORIAL MOTHER CELL OF PUCCINIA STRIIFORMIS WEST.TO ITS OWN INTERCELLULAR HYPHAE
|
Abstract:
The invasion of haustorial mother cell to its own intercellular hyphae in wheat stripe rust fungus was studied with electron microscope. It was observed that while a haustorial mother cell touched with host cell and the intercel- lular hyphae simultaneously,it produced a penetration peg randomly against host cell or the intercellular hyphae, and in the center of colony a haustorial mother cell without touchment with host cell could also produce a penetration peg against the intercellular hyphae.Although the penetration pegs, formed on haustorial mother cell wall against the intercellular hyphae, were with normal ultrastructure and had invaded into the intercellular hyphae wall, they failed to penetrate through the hyp- hal wall. The results indicate that inducing factor for formation of haustorial mo- ther cell and penetration peg may be physical toucbment but chemical stimulation and the recognition between this pathogen and its host may take place after the for- mation of penetration peg.
