A STUDY ON RUSSULA VIRIDI-RUBROLIMBATA SP. NOV. AND ITS RELATED SPECIES OF SUBSECTION VIRESCENTINAS
|
Abstract:
Based on the specimens collected from Donglan in Guangxi province and Kunming in Yunnan province of China, a new species, Russula viridi-rubrolimbata Ying is described and illustrated. The pileus of this species is creviced with areolate patches. The cuticle of the pileus consists of distinct epicutis and slightly gelatinized subcutis. The epicutis is composed of a pseudoparenchymatic layer and sphaerocysts, some of which may continue into ciliate elements. The distinctive cuticular structure indicates that the present species belongs to Section Rigidae Fr., Subsection Virescentinae Sing. as defined by Singer. This new species is close to Russula virescens (Schaeff. ex Zanted.) Fr., R. crustosa Peck and R. griseoviridis McNabb, but the color is quite different. The color of the pileus of R. virescens is green or greyish green, the color of R. crustosa is mainly dirty brownish, ochraceous, or greenish and the ground color of the pileus of R. griseoviridis is dull green, greyish green or pallid olive; whereas R. viridi-rubrolimbata is pinkish red or light jasper red on the margin and light yellowish olive to yellowish olive in the center of the pileus. The sphaerocysts and their ciliate elements of the new species are smaller in size than those of R. virescens, R. crustosa and R. griseoviridis. The basidiospores, basidia and pleurocystidia of the new species also differ from those of three species in size and form. Chinese and Latin diagnoses and illustrations are given to the new species. Specimens cited are deposited in the Mycologicai Herbarium of the Institute of Microbiology, Academia Sinica.
