A STUDY ON DIVERGENT CHARACTERS OF POPULATIONS IN USNEA MONTIS-FUJI MOT
|
Abstract:
A terricolous population of Usnea montis-fuji Mot. is found in the alpine cold semi-desert of Changbai mountain of Jilin province in north-eastern China. The population covers a considerably large area from alt. 2080 to 2380m in southern slope of the mountain. The strong prevailing wind trains the prostrate filamentous thalli of Usnea montis-fuji Mot. over the earth from west toward east. The terricolous population is characterized by its disciform or tile-shaped stem base of its filamentous thalli instead of cylindroid one in epiphytic population, and its adventitious rhizines. A preliminary analysis and comparison in biosystematics of the populations from morphology, ecology, chemistry, and taxonomy are carried out.
