Real-time hair animation of virtual characters

Abstract:
We introduced an efficient lattice mechanical deformation approach. The lattice was deformed as a particle system using advanced numerical methods, and the hairs were animated using quadratic B-Spline interpolation. We dealt with the collisions between the hair and the body surface with metaball model. The mechanical model of the hairstyle which can simulate any kind of complex hairstyles is sufficiently fast for real-time performance and sufficient versatility. The model can reach the optimal compromise between accuracy and computation speed in any rendering context.
