Motion coding is the key technique of MPEG-4 VM. A basic motion coding algorithm was given. In motion detecting, the way of counting the threshold value to VO with the shape was improved. Based on the Unrestricted Motion Estimation, Advanced Prediction, Repetitive Padding and Modified Block Matching, different matching rules and searching algorithms were compared and the results were shown so as to achieve a more optimized motion coding and decoding.
