Capacity of a backbone wireless mesh network using directional antennas
|
Abstract:
Directional antennas can improve spatial reuse of Wireless Mesh Setworks (WMNs) and affect the capacity of WMNs. Although some medium access control schemes, routing protocols and topology control methods of directional antennas have been recently proposed to improve the performance of WMN, it is still a need to analyze the capacity of WMNs deployed with directional antennas. This paper studied the capacity of a large backbone WMN using directional antennas by asymptotic analysis methods, investigated the effect of directional antennas on capacity and derived the upper bound of the per-router throughput. The results show that when the number of access points increases to some threshold, using directional antennas will improve the capacity of WMNs.
