Research on impact of simple faults on H.264 encoder performance

To facilitate encoder testing, this paper studied the impact of simple faults on H. 264 video encoders. By introducing simple faults generated by mutation operators into the encoder, it analyzed the impact of mutation faults on video PSNR and perceptual quality. Experiment results show that most simple faults do not lead to considerable degradation on PSNR and perceptual quality. Hence encoder testing requires the deeper investigation.
