Interesting of region-based JPEG coding algorithm for wireless multimedia sensor networks

To solve the problems of compression of video-surveillance image sequences collected by a wireless multimedia sensor network, this paper proposed an image compression scheme based on change detection and reduced part of DCT coefficients. Changing detection finds the region of interest for the image, in which all DCT coefficients was saved and coding; DCT coefficients would be cut in the background. Simulation results show that this proposed algorithm can increase compression ratio and image quality, balance between image quality and energy consumption.
