Design and implementation of reducing authentication cost in WiMAX handoff

MS needs to be authenticated and acquires the related keys in WiMAX handoff. This process incurs long delay in WiMAX handoff, which heavily affects the handoff performance. To reduce the handoff delay, this paper proposed a mechanism which combined the context transfer protocol and authentication procedure. This mechanism created a context module in WiMAX ASN_GW.Then,ASN_GW used the context module to conserve and distribute the keys. Testing results show that the authentication delay is reduced by the mechanism.
