Boundary extraction method for worn area of repair parts based on polygonal models

Abstract:
To tackle the problem of parts repair, the paper proposed an extraction method based on a polygonal model for the boundary of worn area. Extracted the points on the worn area boundary through the comparison of triangular facet angle with the initial value set by the wear condition. Then fitted a NURBS curve on the basis of the extracted boundary points. It also described a method on how to delete the boundary internal meshes of the worn area to provide the necessary geometrical information for the area surface reconstruction. Finally, it shows an application example to varify the proposed method in boundary extraction and mesh deletion of worn area.
