A Method for Determining Grain Size from Digital Images of Sediment Based on Spatial Autocorrelation
|
Abstract:
Autocorrelation has been applied in many fields while the study of spatial autocorrelation and its usage in image analysis is a new question for discussion.Spatial autocrrelation is used to grain size analysis of sediment and an algorithm is presented based on the correlation between intensity of pixels in digital images. This algorithm can be used to measure grain size of sediment, determine grain size distribution, and analyse vertical profiles in a cross-sectional image.Experimental results show this technique offers substantial advantages:it is fast;it can be used in the field to privide real-time analysis;and it does not need sample physically.
