Application of Frequent Episodes Mining on Intrusion Detection

Data mining methods including association rule mining have been applied to the intrusion detection problem. In this paper we describe another extension that uses frequent episodes for network intrusion detection. We first define frequent episodes and then describe experiments that explore its applicability for intrusion detection from audit data. Experimental results indicate that frequent episodes can improve the accuracy of the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and reduce the false alarm rate.
