Research of Passive Network Information Gathering and Analyzing Technology

Network awareness is a crucial aspect of network security.Much of the information obtained through active methods may also be obtained by passively listening to traffic with sniffer. This paper introduces how to acquire information about network with no impact on the bandwidth or on the monitored assets using passive information gathering,describes the process of analyzing packets,and discusses the advantages and drawbacks of passive information gathering.
