In the recognition of engineering drawings,an important problem that must be solved firstly was how to extract,com- bine and uniform the character or strings,which were written in various length and angle,into the level direction for the precise recognition of the character.The method of calculating the minimum enclosing rectangle(MER)was applied to deal with them, got a satisfactory effect.
