Wireless sensor networks are Ad hoc wireless networks consist of large resource-constrained device that interact with environment closely, which have broad prospect in many application areas. First its characteristics and software research progress is summarized. Then the challenges in software it faces is discussed. Finally a middleware architecture is studied.
