A Multilingual Ontology Based on Core Set of Concepts

With the enrichment of Web resource, people hope to realize cross language resource sharing and information retrieval. A multilingual Ontology can be used to describe the relevant domain knowledge in different languages and overcome the cultural and linguistic barriers. This paper provides a brief overview of approaches to multilingual Ontology construction and introduces a new approach to multilingual Ontology construction based on core set of concepts. We use a single , language independent Ontology coupled with many language specific concepts definitions and sets of lexical entities(synset) to characterize modeled concepts. The approach we provide is well suited to operate on large Ontologies because it is able to support many languages with sufficient flexibility, expressive power and reasonable complexity.
