Key Techniques in Design of DBMS Buffer Manager

The buffer manager of OSCAR ORDBMS is responsible for fetching necessary data pages from magnetic disk to software level of main memory.Buffer manager should think much of policies of page replacement and write- back.This paper mainly introduced key techniques in design of OSCAR buffer manager including asynchronous I/O,page r/w checking, policy of page replacement and dynamically managing memory.
