Theory and Analysis of Integer Cosine Transform and Periodic Quantization in H.264
|
Abstract:
H.264 is the next generation new video coding standard drafted by joint video team. Different from the former version H.26L, H.264 proposes a new integer cosine transform method to reduce the codec complexity while improving the coding efficiency. According to the characteristics of the new integer cosine transform, H.264 brings forward a new periodic quantization after considering the periodic property of the quantization table in H.26L.This paper analyzes the derivation process and the extension possibility of this new integer cosine transform and periodic quantization. By comparing the complexity, the precision requirement and the performance of this new algorithm to the corresponding algorithm in H.26L, it is found to be a key effect to bring H.264 simpler and more effective than H.26L.
