FABRICATION OF Zr41.25Ti13.75Ni10Cu12.5Be22.5 BULK METALLIC GLASS FOAM
|
Abstract:
A porous amorphous alloy bulk with a diameter of 8.1 mm and a length of 70 mm was fabricated by infiltrating Zr-based liquid metal into a mould made of NaCl powder in a few seconds and water quenching the pattern. Both the powders and the prealloyed material were sealed in a U-turn quartz crucible and heated in two different temperature regions respectively in the electric resistance furnace. XRD and SEM experiments indicated that the samples are made of amorphous phase and have good connectivity among the cells in the porous. The sizes of struts and the holes are largely smaller than 1 mm. The density and porosity of the open-cellular bulk amorphous alloy are 3.63 g/cm^3 and 40.5%, respectively.
