Preparation of activated carbon from fungi residue by microwave assisted K2CO3 activation
|
Abstract:
Activated carbon was prepared from edible fungi residues using microwave assisted K2CO3 activation in present study. Orthogonal array design experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of activation power, activation time, K2CO3/edible fungi residues (EFRs) ratio and impregnation time on the iodine number and the yield of the activated carbon. The experimental results indicated that the activation power, the activation time and the K2CO3/EFRs ratio were significant, whereas the impregnation time was insignificant, for the iodine number of the activated carbon. As regards the yield, none of the four factors were significant. Taking the iodine number and the yield into combined considerations, the optimum preparation conditions of the activated carbon were as follows: activation power of 560 W, activation time of 20 min, K2CO3/EFR ratio of 0.8 and impregnation time of 20 h.
