Isolation and characterization of nitrifiers

Abstract:
Two nitrifiers,named NS2 and NS5,were isolated from the series-wound desulfurizing and denitrifying system.The cells of isolates were Gram negative.The nitrifying experimental results showed that two strains could use nitrite as sole nitrogen source for growth and nitrify nitrite companying the formation of nitrate,and the nitrogen removal rate was above 60%.The phylogentic analysis based on 16S rRNA suggested that two strains were the closest relative of Delftia sp.with 99% sequence identity.The phylogenetic analysis of two strains were performed by MEGA and the phylogenetic tree of two strains was given.According to morphological characteristics,physiological biochemical test and sequence analysis of 16S rDNA,NS2 and NS5 were identified as Delftia sp.
