Degradation of bisphenol A from water by ultrasound/zero-valent iron
|
Abstract:
The efficiency and affecting factors of bisphenol A (BPA) degradation in water were studied by ultrasound/zero-valent iron (US/Fe0). The experimental results indicated that US/Fe0 was more effective to degrade BPA than US or Fe0 alone in water. Fe0 existed synergistic effects on the degradation of BPA. The degradation process was well described by the first-order kinetics. The Fe0 had dual function for promoting and inhibiting degradation. The greater of ultrasonic power, the better of the degradation rate of BPA. When the initial concentration of BPA is lower, the degradation rate of BPA becomes greater. The condition of lower pH value is conducive to the degradation of BPA. The presence of hydroxyl radical capture (n-butanol) restrains the degradation efficiency of bisphenol A. Combining US with Fe0 to treat BPA for 2 h,the TOC removal is little, which shows that the mineralization efficiency of BPA is incomplete.
