Effect of nitric acid-treatment of activated coke on desulfurization with CuO/AC
|
Abstract:
Activated coke(AC) supports were treated by HNO3 of different concentrations, then CuO/AC catalysts were prepared with activated coke by impregnation. The effect of desulfurization ability with CuO/AC catalysts was investigated. Activated coke supports and CuO/AC catalysts were characterized by BET, FT-IR and XRD. The results show that pore texture of activated coke supports change slightly after nitric acid-treatment, but acidic functional groups on the surface of activated coke increase. This leads to better dispersion of CuO, which increases desufurization ability of CuO/AC catalysts. After treatment with 20% HNO3, the sulfur capacity of CuO/AC is 40.6 mg SO2/g catalyst, which is 41.5% higher than untreated catalyst.
