Effect of Tween-80 and H2O2 on oil degradation by Burkholderia cepacia
|
Abstract:
Oil and grease wastewater is one of the most widespread environmental pollution. The effect of surfactants and H2O2 on oil and grease degradation by Burkholderia cepacia was studied. The results showed that proper quantities of surfactants and H2O2 promoted oil and grease degradation. The bioavailability of oil and grease was increased because of its solubility and the emulsifiability in water enhanced by surfactants. When the concentration of Tween-80 was 600 mg/L,the oil and grease degradation rate reached 91%. At lower concentration, H2O2 could promote the growth of microbe and maintained stable pH of culture and that improved the oil and grease degradation rate. When adding 400 mg/L H2O2 to culture, the oil and grease degradation rate reached 90%.
