Process of start-up of ANAMMOX reactors at high substrate concentrations
|
Abstract:
The process of start-up of ANAMMOX was investigated at high substrate concentrations in three sets of aerobic sequent biofilm reactor (ASBR). Through the 50th day of start-up, the removal rate of volumetric loading rate of total nitrogen achieved 0.23 kg N/(m3·d) in each reactor. Due to the improvement of the loading rate, the pH in the reactor increased, which was over the ANAMMOX bacteria optimum growing conditions, nitrogen removal rate of three reactors gradually decreased. Then recovered the performance of nitrogen removal rate by decreasing the substrate concentration and prolonging the hydraulic retention time. The results showed that the high substrate concentration made against enhancing the ANAMMOX nitrogen removal efficiency. Low substrate concentration in influent in favor of better nitrogen removal effect and the removal rate of volumetric loading rate of total nitrogen achieved 0.45 kg N/(m3·d).It showed that the low influent substrate was in favour of improving the nitrogen removal compared to the higher influent substrate concentration.
