Acclimation and isolation of microorganism for degrading methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE)
|
Abstract:
To generate MTBE degraders, the biodegradation potential of aborigines from different gasoline contaminated soils was evaluated.Mixed culture of MTBE degrader was successfully isolated under aerobic condition using different acclimation patterns. The mixed culture could be used in the treatment of MTBE containing wastewater.Six different colony morphology isolates were purified and primary identified. The ability to degrade MTBE of mixed culture has been compared to that of the monoculture, the result indicated that a mixed culture could degrade MTBE more rapidly than monoculture.
