Research and technological development trends on drinking water safety assurance:I. Pollution sources and control targets
|
Abstract:
The establishment of more advanced and feasible technological systems to assure drinking water safety in China is required due to the conflicts between water resource pollution and more serious water standards, the simultaneous existence of conventional pollutants and emerging pollutants, and the frequent occurrence of emergent pollution accidents. On the other hand, pollutants show complicated environmental behaviors of circulation, cumulating, transportation, and transformation in water circulatory systems, and exhibit intricate species transformation in structural characteristics and functional groups. Furthermore, different pollutants and their intermediates show combined toxicological effects in complicated and multi-interfacial systems. These complex factors promote and advance severe challenges for the control of heath risks of drinking water safety. China should devote to strategical, fundamental and innovative researches to achieve the general target of controlling water pollution, meeting drinking water standard, and controlling health risks of drinking water, and to provide highly-efficient, cost-effective, and feasible technological systems for the drinking water safety assurance and health risks control in China.
