Study on landfill leachate treatment by flocculation processes
|
Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate the efficiency of flocculation processes for removing color and COD from anaerobic-aerobic landfill leachate. Three types of flocculants, namely ferric sulphate, polyferric sulphate and polyferric silicate sulfate, were studied. Leachate toxicity of flocculation processes was discussed by acute toxicity tests. Results indicated that polyferric sulphate was superior to the other coagulants and removed 93. 1% of color and 61.4% of COD at an optimum dose of 10 mmol/L at pH 8. Toxicity tests also suggested that leachate toxicity is considerably lower than the others.
