Horizontal migration rule and control measures of landfill gas arising from non-sanitary municipal solid waste landfill
|
Abstract:
There are still a great number of non-sanitary municipal solid waste landfills in the cities of China. There is no time to delay to control the environmental pollution and to remove the hidden environmental safety troubles caused by those landfills. This paper focuses on the horizontal migration of landfill gas, exemplified by a certain non-sanitary landfill in Chongqing. Around the landfill plant, 36 monitoring bores are laid out regularly to monitor the landfill gas concentration within the bores. For CH4 is a characteristic component of landfill gas and represents the main part of landfill gas, it is used to study the horizontal migration rule of landfill gas. The results show that the distance to the site boundary is the principal influential factor of CH4 concentration in monitoring bores; there is very significant horizontal migration of landfill gas in the region with a distance to the site boundary less than 50 m, as a consequence, special measures should be adopted to control the horizontal migration of landfill gas in the region as well as within the landfill site as soon as possible.
