Preparation and characteristics of controlled release potassium permanganate
|
Abstract:
In order to remediate the DNAPLs pollution in ground water, the preparation and characterization of the encapsulated KMnO_4 particles by stearic acid was studied. The purpose of encapsulated KMnO_4 particles by phase separation method was to create microcapsules with slow-release properties. The encapsulation rate can be up to 163.3%when the ratio of stearic acid and KMnO_4 was 3:1,stirring speed at 450 r/min and ultrasonic time was 10 min.The release kinetics of encapsulated KMnO_4 particles was in good agreement with Q=kt~nmodel and the theoretical time of the encapsulated KMnO_4 to release permanganate into water continually were 229.4 d under the above conditions of preparation. The characteristics of encapsulated KMnO_4 by IR and SEM analysis showed that the structure of stearic acid was decomposed during the encapsulation process, while stearic acid was bonded chemically into the surface of KMnO_4,rather than adsorbed physically.
