A comparative study on Canadian and Chinese river basin planningKeywords: river basin planning,public participation,water pollution Abstract: The paper tries to summarize basic approaches to river basin planning in Canada andin China, and makes a comparative analysis taking the Saint John River in Canada and the TaiziRiver in China as examples. The analytical results indicated that policy and management are the ma-jor features of the river basin planning study in Canada; control and treatment of water pollutionhave been generally treated in China; lack of implementation is a common problem in bothcountries.
