Factors affecting the service ability of subsea pipeline based on inspection result

Results of magnetic flux leakage in-line inspection showed that several severe external corrosion defects were contained in a 2 km pipeline segment. Forms, position and orientation of these defects were investigated with reference to fabrication and installation records of this pipeline to understand the causes of these corrosion defects. The results showed that tiny damage occurred to the anti-corrosion coating and water proof jacket resulting in joint watering and pipe corrosion. Suggestions were given to improve the details treatment during pipeline design, fabrication and installation phases.
