The effects of superficial gas velocity on the phenol waste gas degradation by aerobic granules
|
Abstract:
The effects of superficial gas velocity on the phenol waste gas degradation by aerobic granules were studied. The results showed that aerobic granules performed stably and effectively with the phenol removal rates over 95% when the superficial gas velocities changed from 0.7 to 3.0 cm s-1. With the increasing of superficial gas velocities, the physical and chemical characteristics of aerobic granules were improved including the increasing of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) amount, hydrophobicity and PS/PN, which resulted in the stable operation of aerobic granules. The simulation of the phenol waste gas degradation by aerobic granules indicated that the highest specific phenol degradation rate was 19.46 mg-phenol g-1-VSS min-1 when superficial gas velocity was 2.5 cm s-1.
