Photocatalytic activity of boron-doped iron oxides under UV and visible light
|
Abstract:
Sol-gel method was used to prepare different photocatalysts, boron-doped goethite and hematite, which were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), special surface area (BET method), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS) and zero point of charge (salt titration method). The results show that boron doping can change the crystal structure of photocatalysts, enlarge their special surface areas, increase their Lewis acid sites and improve their photocatalytic activity in UV and visible region. 2% B-doped hematite exhibits good photodegradation ability of 29.1% degradation rate to methyl orange under UV light, while 2% B-doped goethite exhibits great photodegradation performance about 17.3% in visible light.
