Research progress on the effective dose measurement methods for UV disinfection facilities
|
Abstract:
In recent years, ultraviolet (UV) exposure has been increasingly applied in disinfecting drinking water and wastewater. However, the progress on the measurement methods for the effective UV dose is limited both in China and abroad. In particular, there is no organization in China that can provide the effective dose validation to UV disinfection systems by use of the standard biodosimetry at current. In this paper, the main validation methods, including biodosimetry, chemical actinometry, and mathematical model calculation, are introduced with comparative discussion of their respective pros and cons in application. Moreover, several recently-developed validation methods are presented with their application perspectives envisioned. This work is expected to support the application and dissemination of UV disinfection technology in water and wastewater treatment.
