Study on the removal performance of Cu2+ and turbidity with the macromolecular flocculant for heavy metal(MAC)
|
Abstract:
Amacromolecular flocculant for heavy metals, mercaptoacetyl chitosan(MAC),was prepared by reacting chitosan with mercaptoacetic acid.In preliminary experiments, the flocculation performance of MACwas evaluated by using wastewater which contained Cu2+ and/or turbidity.Factors which affect the removal of Cu2+ and turbidity were studied and the experimental results showed that,1MAC can remove both Cu2+ and turbidity from wastewater. The removal rate of Cu2+ by using MAC combined with anionic polyacrylamide is higher than that with MAC,the removal rate of Cu2+ reaches above 98%;When the water sample contained not only Cu2+ but also turbidity-causing substances, the removal rate of both Cu2+ and turbidity was promoted by the cooperative effects of each other, leaving a residual concentration of Cu2+ below 0.5 mg·L-1 and the turbidity below 3NTU.Thus,Cu2+ is more easily removed by MAC when the water is more turbid; The removal rate of Cu2+ increases when the pHvalue increased(from 4.5 to 5.5),contrarily the removal rate of turbidity decreases at higher pH.
