pH,alkalinity and mucus in the gills of Paracheirodon innesi and their effects on copper speciation
|
Abstract:
A procedure of high\|density exposure was developed to study the gill microenvironment of Neon Tetras. It was found that the balance pH was around 7.2 and pH difference between the gills and the surrounding water was up to 0.5 unit.Alkalinity of the fish gills increased dramatically at high pH condition and mucus secretion was stimulated by copper exposure. The speciation and bioavailability of copper in the fish gill microenvironment were discussed.
