STUDY ON THE REPRODUCTION TOXICITY INDUCED BY ENRICHED URANIUM
|
Abstract:
A study on the reprduction toxicity exposed to internal contamination of enriched ura-nium at different levels is reported.Abnormalities in sperm induced by 235UO2F2,bicapsand non-hock sperms are found to be predominant.Enriched uranium can in-duce chromosome aberrations in germ cells.Among the type of chromosome aberrations ofspermatogonium'chromosome breakage has shown to be predominant. At the same timechromosome fragment and translocation of primary spermatocyte have also shown to be in-duced by 235UO2F2.Enriched uranium can result in sperm DNA strand breakage,Thelevels of sperm DNA strand breakage from treated mice increase with the increasing dosesof 235UO2F2.It is to be noted that enriched uranium can damage genetic materials andcause an increase in the dominant lethality and skeletal abnormalities in offspring. The rela-tionship between incidence of dominant skeletal abnormalities in offspring (B)and injecteddOses of 235UO2F2(I)in testes can be expressed by the equation:B=28.84+0,84I.
