Use of an special ecological system to improve the source water quality of Taihu Lake
|
Abstract:
Pilot tests were made on the improvement of source water quality in Taihu Lake through the construction of an aquatic and artificial media ecological system. A 7 day HRT gives the highest removal rate and capacity and benefit. Under these conditions, the average removal rates were 79.00% TN, 63.46% nitrate nitrogen, 14.57%nitrite nitrogen, 67.43% TP, and 35.81% phosphate phosphorus. In contrast, in the deposition pool, the average removal rates only reached 9.67% TN, 7.09%nitrate nitrogen, 1.30% nitrite nitrogen, 9.92% TP, and 7.04% phosphate phosphorus. Through coordination of aquatic absorption and micro-degradation on artificial media, significant amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus pollutants were removed. It is evident that the source water quality in Taihu Lake can be significantly improved by use of the aquatic and artificial media ecological system.
